Eating House

804 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Coral Gables, Fla.

(305)-448-6524

You may have thought you’d died and gone to heaven, but you’ve really just had a meal at Eating House. Eating House is one of Coral Gables’ trendiest restaurants. Operated by Miami-raised Giorgio Rapicavoli, a former winner of “Top Chef,” Eating House takes gastronomy to a whole new level. The restaurant is famous for its fusion dishes and seasonal tasting menus which celebrate some of Miami’s favorite holidays like 305 day and 4/20. With an intimate lowkey atmosphere and food that’s sure to change your life, Eating House will become your new date night go-to. When you go be sure to order the queso frito, fried, crispy queso blanco with guava ironbeer jam; the creamy, simply, yet absolutely delicious pasta carbonara; and finish everything off with Nutella dirt cup— it may sound unappetizing, but trust me, it’s one of the best desserts you’ll ever have.

Bulla Gastrobar

2500 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Coral Gables, Fla.

(786)-810-6215

Bulla Gastrobar is a place where you can sit at the bar and chat with the bartender. It’s a place with good sangria and even better food. It’s your new neighborhood hangout, and it’s the only place you’ll want to spend happy hour. Come to Bulla to dine on authentic Spanish tapas and classic Spanish drinks and cocktails. Imagine sipping red sangria while snacking on bacon-wrapped, chorizo-stuffed dates; golden, crispy patatas bravas with spicy brava sauce and aioli; and delectable Serrano ham croquettes served with sweet fig jelly. And if that’s not enough to convince you, well Bulla has happy hour every single day from 5 -7 p.m

Threefold Cafe

141 Giralda Ave. Coral Gables, Fla.

(305)-704-8007

Looking for a chill coffee spot you can work remotely in? Your next favorite brunch spot? The best and most instagrammable avocado toast you’ll ever have? Well, look no further than Threefold Cafe, Coral Gables’s best spot to get breakfast, brunch, and everything in between. Threefold Cafe serves Australian-inspired breakfast fare and a vast selection of coffee. Order the Moroccan Spice Avocado Toast that features Threefold’s classic avocado mix with harissa, mint, garbanzo beans, and fried quinoa on toast. Or try the Big Bad Aussie, a heart Australian style breakfast featuring bourbon-maple glazed, mouth-watering bacon, fried eggs, delicious barbeque baked beans, sauteed spinach, roasted tomatoes, and a perfectly cooked portobello mushroom cap, and buttered toast. Even if you’re not in the mood for a big breakfast, still stop by Threefold because it’s a coffee purist’s dream with a rotating selection of single-origin pour-overs and cold brews.

Tap 42

301 Giralda Ave. Coral Gables, Fla.

(786)-391-1566

Tap 42 is like your classic neighborhood bar that went abroad to Europe and became sophisticated. Yes, Tap 42 is still a great, casual joint to grab a beer with your friends after the long workweek. It’s unpretentious, but unlike other neighborhood bars, it actually has good food. Tap 42 blends the best of both worlds, a cozy, local neighborhood bar with an amazing craft kitchen serving gourmet, dressed-up bar food for a reasonable price. Stop by for happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. to grab a beer and dine on braised short rib beef sliders with melted cheddar and dijonnaise. Order the truffle filet steak sandwich with melted white cheddar, caramelized onions, and truffle aioli. Think Philly steak sandwich, but so much better. Or try the beer-battered fish and chips, fresh-cut Mahi-Mahi dipped in a specialty batter and fried to perfection with golden, crispy fries and housemade tartar sauce.

Mamey

1350 South Dixie Highway, Coral Gables, Fla.

(305)-266-2639

Nestled inside the Thesis Hotel, you’d probably drive right past Mamey and not know all the deliciousness you were missing. A brainchild of chef Niven Patel, Mamey blends Asian, Polynesian, and Caribbean cuisines to give diners a true gastronomic experience. Patel uses inspiration from his travels and produce from his family farm in Homestead to create artful, delicious dishes that idolize the concepts of freshness and innovation. When you go, be sure to start with the ghee-roasted plantains that are served with jerk-spiced crema, pickled onions, and a variety of fresh herbs and spices. Then move on to the Malaysian-style whole hogfish with saffron pickled fennel and farm radish; it’s so good, you might order two. And after you’ve had your fill of dinner, there’s always dessert. I recommend the Key Lime Cheesecake Flan. You may not be in Key West, but I can guarantee it’s one of the best key lime dessert experiences you'll have in South Florida.
